Project: Breakfast Nook

It's done! Albeit four months later, but finding the perfect curtains and that Saarinen style table took a while (especially since I challenged myself to find a deal on everything - and I did). I'm proud to say that all-in-all I spent just a bit over $300, thanks to Craigslist and scrappy web searching.

  • The curtains were on sale from Urban Outfitters (no longer available); originally $38.00 marked down to $10.00 per panel.
  • The chairs are eiffel chairs that I found on Craigslist, almost new, at $50 a piece (they usually sell online for well over $100).
  • The Saarinen style table was also a Craigslist find for only $150. It took me a few months to find it because I wasn't willing to pay the going rate at $500 (which is still fair) for a used table, or over $1000 for a new reproduction. I'd seen them once or twice for around $150, but they were usually spoken for by the time I got in contact with the seller. Once I spotted this one, I immediately called my husband and asked him to pick it up in Orange Country since, you know, he works close by and is the best husband ever. Moral of the story: good deals come to those who wait... and to those who check Craigslist three times a day.
  • The print is by A Mano Press - this was a $20 purchase from the LA Printer's Fair I attended last fall. I just loved the color combo and the owner was the sweetest old-time letterpress printer, so I had to buy something from him. I framed it with an existing frame I had, but wasn't sure where to put it until this all came together.
