Hot or Not: The Doily

Recently I've seen the doily pop up on many blogs as a current trend in weddings and design in general. I still can't decide whether I find them to be beautifully romantic, or just plain old and dated. I've inherited many of these white frilly doilies from my grandmother - as croqueting is a very popular pastime among Greek grandmothers; in addition to gardening and cooking yummy meals - and yet I don't know how to tastefully use them in 2010. What do you think?

  1. I have used my doilies - the crocheted ones in my scrapbooking. I have paired them with embellishments such as feathers, beads, buttons, etc. and they look really nice esp. if you use them with older photographs - perhaps your grandma or mom!

Now I use doilies that are made from paper to decorate invitations, cards etc. But I really like the tactile feel of the small doilies that I find at rummage sales, etc. If the crocheting was done with finer thread - they can be really exquisite.

    You have nice work!
